        Mungrisdale Swaledale Sheep Show

Each year, on the 3rd Wednesday in May, the Annual Mungrisdale Swaledale Sheep Show is held in a small field in front of Bannerdale View (Opposite the red Telephone Box near the bridge to The Mill Inn).

        Sheep Show
Sheep Shows have been a traditional part of Lakeland life for generations and the Mungrisdale Show is no exception. Over 80 annual Shows have been held, although not continuously, due to interruptions such as the war years and foot and mouth outbreaks.

Being the first Show of the season and with prizes and prize money totaling in excess of £1,000, it attracts farmers with their Swaledale sheep and lambs from a wide area of Cumbria, stretching from Appleby in the East, beyond Keswick in the West, and down to Kendal in the South of the County. The first seven Classes in the Show are for "local" exhibitors who live within a 12 mile radius of Mungrisdale and the remaining 18 Classes are open to everyone.

This is not an event with "added visitor attractions" (apart from tea, coffee, sandwiches and excellent home-made cakes) but if you would like to see a traditional local sheep show in a wonderful Lakeland setting and perhaps "have a crack" with one or two exhibitors to learn a bit more about this hardy breed (that's the farmers as well as the Swaledales) you will be very welcome. Needless to say, admission is free!

This year's show is to be held on 20th May 2015 with judging commencing at 1 pm and maybe you want to add if anyone has any queries to contact  the Show Secretary, Jo Edwards on 017684 82434 or by email on johanna.edwards@btopenworld.com

        Northern Fells Broadband

Northern Fells Broadband has been formed as a joint venture between the seven Parishes in the Northern Fells area of Cumbria:

        • Boltons - Allerdale
        • Caldbeck - Allerdale
        • Castle Sowerby - Eden
        • Ireby & Uldale - Allerdale
        • Mungrisdale - Eden
        • Sebergham & Welton - Allerdale
        • Rosley & Westward - Allerdale
The Steering Group is entirely made up of volunteers representing each of the Northern Fells Parishes. Our area covers over 100 square miles and has a population of 2,600 residents across 1,700 properties.

Super Fast Broadband is as important to rural areas as Electricity and Water. It is vital that this community has access to a level of service which will shortly become universally available in urban areas in the UK.

Their aim is to identify and implement an effective Super Fast Broadband solution for the benefit of every household and business within the parishes of the Northern Fells area.
