Northern Fells Group Local Help & Information to all Residents during the Coronavirus outbreak Bulletin no. 4 27/3/2020

Hope you are all coping and isn’t it lovely to feel a bit of sun at last, (well at least it is sunny today!) We do hope you all remember that help is out there and no one needs to feel alone, please contact your Village Agent if you need assistance of any kind.

Caldbeck Surgery has asked for patients who get their medications dispensed from the surgery, if they would give at least three days’ notice prior to collection, NFG can organize collection by arrangement by contacting any Village Agent who will organize this.

There is time to get out into the garden and prepare beds for the summer and these few dry days have helped, seeds can be bought online and posted to you so if you’ve never had time to ‘grow your own’ then why not try now, start with some salad leaves, easy to grow and much better and fresher than bagged leaves. They can even be grown on a windowsill or in a conservatory or porch.

Our local shops at Hesket Newmarket 016974 78229 and Caldbeck 016974 78252 are doing an amazing job of keeping the community supplied. Both are open and taking orders and doing deliveries so no one needs to be short of groceries. Orders can be phoned in and collected eliminating excess contact. Deliveries can also be arranged with our volunteers.

For residents in Mungrisdale, Brysons Bakery are doing deliveries, Margaret and Andy Rose will assist with deliveries if needs be, to have fresh bread, rolls delivered between Tuesday and Saturday call 017687 72257 to order.

If you are on your own and would like a phone call then please let us know, we have many volunteers who would love someone to talk to and who knows who you will meet, the world is full of interesting people. Does anyone know of a poem attributed to Spike Milligan about a smile? It’s copied below and I wish a smile was infecting the earth now instead of CV.

I hear that some of you have started on our 8” knitted squares, for anyone needing wool or needles or wanting the pattern again please let us know. If anyone would be happy to do the sewing up bit then again contact us, it will be lovely to see the finished blankets.

For those who are going to use the time to do research if you are a library member and would like to start your family history journey, please email with your name and library membership number: and they will contact you with further information.
