St Kentigern's Mungrisdale                          E-Newsletter  April / May 2020

EASTER: the reason for hope even in the midst of troubles.

Welcome to our first attempt at a short newsletter.  Let us know whether it is helpful, and what else you would like it to include, or send something to contribute. nancy.tweddell@outlook.com

The Church at Mungrisdale continues to pray for our friends and neighbours.  We are here should you have prayer requests or if you have things on your mind which you would like to talk to someone about.  In the first instance please make contact through Brian Davis on 07746641932 or Christine Fleming on 017684 84217, though we are all here to help.

The church building is currently closed but we are meeting ‘on line’ on Sunday mornings at 11am. If you would like to join us contact Brian;  we are using ‘Zoom’ and Brian can help you get started.  It is Easter Sunday on 12th April and we’d love to have you join us ‘on line’.

We are also holding church fellowship meetings on Zoom –a time to encourage one another, exchange some chat and share a prayer or three.  If you would like to join in please contact Brian  drbriandavis@btinternet.com

E Mail prayer:  Every month an email prayer is sent out (bcc) round our community with the names of people who need support and have consented to be included. If you wish to include anyone for prayer and/or you would like your email address to be added to the group, please email Stephen on stephen@sacredspace.org.uk

Something to look forward to in the Autumn:

Parish Council Update - Spring 2020

During the Annual Parish Meeting which took place Monday 9 March, various local reports were received:

The Chairman’s report outlined the work of the Council over the last year.

Denise Elliott gave an account of the Jonathan Scott Trust Fund which awards educational grants to young people in the Parish.

Andy Rose reported on the efforts of the Northern Fells Group to re-fund its future activities. (The NFG is certainly demonstrating its tremendous value in the outstanding voluntary contribution it is making to the community during the coronavirus pandemic.)

Guest speaker, Ben Long from the Lake District National Park Authority gave an informative talk on planning permission.

Stephen Wright spoke prophetically on personal measures to take in order to mitigate the coronavirus.

Recently members of the Parish Council have placed signs and cordons to discourage parking in Mungrisdale village during the lockdown period.  Anne Edwards

I would like to wish all our WI members well-being and safety from this dreadful virus.

I hope that they, like me, are rediscovering old hobbies that we had previously shelved thinking we no longer had the time. How wrong we were!  Maybe next year we should open our gardens and show off the hours of work and loving care they are now getting.

We are so lucky to live in this beautiful part of the country at this stressful time.

Please take great care of yourselves and look forward to everything getting back to normal before too long.   Pat Green

Deer Rudding Open Garden 2020
Please note that the planned openings for 2020 have been cancelled due to the restrictions imposed by the U.K. government to control the spread of Coronavirus. Thank you for your support to date in raising funds for the National Garden Scheme and local charities.  Lynne

NORTHERN FELLS GROUP (a letter from Philippa)

Dear Residents of Mungrisdale

I hope we are managing to get the message out to everyone in the Parish that Northern Fells Group is here to help. We have been overwhelmed by the response for local volunteers and are so very grateful to those of you we have already used to assist us in keeping people safe, well and happy. As your Village Agent I have always been impressed at your independence and strength of community and it is that (along with a little bit of help from your friends) which will get us through this difficult and challenging time.

Our updates are on your Parish website and if you know of anyone who is not on the internet please let me know so we can get printed information to them. If you would like to receive them yourself please let me have your email address and I will add you to the distribution list. We are happy to help with shopping and prescriptions etc. So please don’t go without the things you need. I know a lot of you have been running a regular ‘Phone a Friend’ scheme and that is so very important to keep in touch with each other.

Keep well, Stay safe and please ask if you need any assistance, however small it seems.

Best wishes to you all

Philippa Groves
