June Meeting

 Calvert Trust

27 members and guests attended our June meeting where our speaker was from the Calvert Trust.

After a brief history of the organisation and details of the three centers at Keswick, Kielder and Exmoor, we heard about the different activities that have been adapted to enable disabled people to achieve things that they never thought would be possible.  These include windsurfing, paragliding, and abseiling and wheelchair access to the top of Latrigg. 

The trust works with people of all disabilities, hearing, physical and learning and offer courses from personal development; rehabilitation; disability awareness and education with schools.  The ultimate aim is to send people away with a different view and to focus more on how things can be done.

The Calvert Trust is a charity and through fundraising and grants it aims to meet its capital costs.   All of the centers have excellent facilities that are also available to the local community.
