- Apologies
were received from councillors Alan Bird and Ernie Teasdale, Bert Richardson
from Cumbria County Council and Andrew Holliday of Cumbria Police
- Minutes
of the meeting held March 10th 2008 were agreed
- The guest
speaker was Mr Mike Clarke who is Director of the Lake District World
Heritage Project. Mr Clarke gave a lively talk about the bid, backed by
Cumbria County Council, for the National Park to gain World Heritage Status
which he believes would only have a positive impact on the region without
bringing any additional planning constraints. The bid itself focuses on the
Lake District’s cultural landscape which has been created by generations of
farming and has been the inspiration to artists over the centuries. The
nomination document should be ready by June of this year. More information
can be found on the project website at
www.lakeswhs.co.uk
- Updates
were provided by Parish Representatives for the work of the past year by:
-
The Parish Council
– Full written report provided to attendees and available.
-
Mungrisdale Recreation Rooms
– The Hall continues to thrive. The Trust Deeds are now up to date and
meet the Charity Commission guidelines. The Hall made a profit of about
£3000 in 2008 with increased substantial reserves. Some expenditure has
been incurred including repainting the entrance halls. Functions were
generally well-attended and ideas for events are always welcome. Full
written report available.
-
Jonathon Scott Trust
– In 2008 eleven awards were made to young people living in the parish
towards the cost of music lessons and instruments, sports training and
equipment, educational visits and books for college courses. The income
for 2008 was just over £3100 and, with £500 brought forward from the
previous year and an expenditure of around £2780 there is £845.67
carried forward to 2009. Full written report available.
- St
Kentigern’s PCC
– the PCC’s 2008 highlights included the success of moving the Carol
Service to a Sunday evening instead of mid-week, the benefits of the
improved church heating and dehumidifier, the continued upkeep of the
churchyard and the healthy bank balance of the PCC. Full written report
available.
-
Pinfold Community
Garden Project
– Funds were made available from the Eden Valley Neighbourhood Forum,
Cumbria Wildlife Fund. An additional £200 was raised by a stall. An
all-access footpath has been laid and plants and hedges are
establishing. Wildlife tracks have been spotted. Planting will begin in
spring and benches will be in place shortly. Full written report
available.
-
Northern Fells Group
– Margaret Hodge was appointed group co-ordinator last June. During the
school holidays last year various activities were organised including
orienteering, music sessions and circus skills, attracting 120
youngsters from the seven parishes. The minibus continues to be a vital
resource for parishioners with no other means of transport. Costs have
risen and within the next twelve months the minus will need to be
replaced. Fundraising events have included a Burns Supper, a coffee shop
during the summer at Mosedale, a Christmas Concert by the Lockerbie
singers and the selling of Northern Fells Christmas cards. The Group is
always looking at ways to raise money to help it support rural life.
Full written report available.
- Any other
business
-
An update was presented on the status of the Berrier Hill Wind Farm which
has gone to public inquiry. The planning application is at a crucial stage and
the Opposition Group is short of funds.
-
A parishioner raised concerns over the dangers of crossing the road to
use the bus stop at the road end. The item was carried forward to the public
participation section of the Parish Council Meeting.
The meeting
was closed.
